The People Project Scholarship Programs
At The People Project, we’re committed to supporting and strengthening Tasmania’s health workforce. Through our scholarship programs, we provide financial assistance to help health professionals access training, education, and professional development opportunities.
We offer a range of scholarships tailored to different stages of a health career – from students beginning their studies, to professionals seeking to upskill or expand their scope of practice. These scholarships aim to remove financial barriers, encourage ongoing learning, and ensure that doctors, nurses, midwives, and allied health professionals can continue to deliver quality care in their communities.
Explore the scholarships below to find the opportunity that best suits your needs.
Health Workforce Scholarship Program
The Health Workforce Scholarship Program (HWSP) supports health professionals in rural and remote Tasmania to train, upskill, and expand their services. Whether you’re looking to attend a workshop, conference, or complete postgraduate study, the program offers financial assistance of up to $10,000 per year for up to two years, or one-off bursaries of up to $5,000. Funding can help cover course fees, travel, and accommodation, making professional development more accessible for you and your team.
SEM Scholarship Program
The Single Employer Model (SEM) is a joint initiative between the Commonwealth and State Governments to pilot an employment model where general practitioner (GP) registrars have the option to be employed by the Tasmanian Heath Service (THS) while undertaking their general practice training. Commonwealth funding to support this pilot is provided to Tasmania through the Primary Care Initiative.
As part of the Primary Care Initiative, Tasmania has also received funding to support increased supervision capacity in general practice. The SEM Supervision Scholarship Program aims to support GPs to boost their medical education, leadership and/or supervision skills, and to facilitate the presentation of medical education research at relevant Australian conferences.
