About

Who we are

In simple terms, we:

  • Recruit and support health professionals to live and work in Tasmania
  • Support health practices and connect them with the right people
  • Offer scholarships and professional development opportunities
  • Engage with students to help build Tasmania’s future health workforce
  • Support people with disability to achieve their goals through NDIS services, training, and community programs
  • Help older Tasmanians navigate care options and connect with trusted providers
  • Work with communities and local governments to improve access to services and create practical, place-based solutions

Based in Launceston, with offices in George Town and Devonport, The People Project is a not-for-profit organisation committed to helping Tasmanians access the care, services, and opportunities they need to live well. Formerly known as HR+, we rebranded in January 2025 to reflect our expanded focus and vision for supporting communities across Tasmania.

Our work is guided by four key pillars: Primary Health, Disability Services, Aged Care, and Community Innovation. Together, these pillars shape how we connect people, strengthen communities, and build a healthier, more inclusive Tasmania.

The People Project is a registered NDIS provider. We help people with disability achieve their goals through support coordination, plan management, training, micro-enterprise support, and access to community grants.

At the heart of everything we do is care – for our clients, our communities, and each other. With kindness, expertise, and collaboration, we’re here to help Tasmanians live healthier, more connected, and fulfilling lives.

Strengthening Tasmania’s Rural Health Workforce

Empowering Regional Health

We are Tasmania’s leading rural health workforce agency, working behind the scenes to support health professionals and ensure regional communities have access to quality healthcare.

Funded by the Australian Government Department of Health, we deliver programs designed to attract, recruit, and support doctors, nurses, and allied health professionals to rural and remote areas across Tasmania.

For over 20 years, we have been improving access to healthcare in regional communities. Through collaboration with government agencies, private organisations, and other non-government organisations at local, state, and national levels, we identify and implement solutions to Tasmania’s unique health workforce challenges.
