Coupled with a high earning capacity and fantastic lifestyle factors, this opportunity is not to be missed!
The Position
Huon Valley Medical Services proudly owns and operates the Geeveston and Dover Medical Centres. The practices have strong focuses on looking after the well-being of the community and invite enquiries from eligible doctors who have a commitment to positive family medicine outcomes.
This is a full-time GP training position at Dover Medical Centre requiring commitment to the after hours on call roster, currently at a ratio of 1 in 4. After hours needs are triaged by Huon Regional Care which minimises after hours callouts.
Dover Medical Centre supports the rural health beds at Huon Regional Care, and therefore doctors working there must have appropriate knowledge of managing acute medical and palliative conditions. Ambulance services are in Huonville and the nearest A&E is in Hobart.
The doctors are supported by full-time registered nurses, administration staff and several visiting allied health professionals. A telehealth program allows access for patients to specialist services. Visiting services to the centres include psychology, exercise physiology, physiotherapy, massage therapy, and maternal & child health services.
Applicants must hold General Registration (or be able to obtain before applications close on 6 April 2025).
The Organisation
Dover Medical Centre is co-located with aged care provider Huon Regional Care. An expansion of the centre was recently completed, and it now offers five consulting rooms and a separate treatment room providing a range of diagnostic and procedural equipment.
The practice is AGPAL accredited, uses Best Practice software, and provides a wide range of primary care services, including minor surgery and occupational medicine.
Huon Valley Medical Services is committed to fostering medical education and the practice is an accredited training practice and provider for RACGP registrars of all levels, senior ACRRM registrars, and medical students.
The practice bulk bills pensioners, health care card holders and children under 16 years old, with all other patients billed privately.

The Huon Valley is Australia’s southernmost municipal area, and is a vibrant, semi-rural community close to Hobart with four principal townships and a population of more than 17,000.
The region is a popular retreat for those seeking an alternative lifestyle. It is dominated by waterways and forested hills and is well known for an excellent range of gourmet produce that has helped Tasmania earn its reputation as a food lover’s paradise. Food and music festivals aside, the waters of the Huon River and D’Entrecasteaux Channel offer world class fishing, sailing, diving and rowing experiences, and the Valley’s population swells in the warmer months with an influx of visitors.
